Faye Rauw
Faye Rauw hails from Humboldt, Saskatchewan where she started dancing at the
age of four. Over the years, she has built her career as a renowned
teacher, adjudicator, choreographer and performer. Lululemon has
recognized her as an alumni ambassador as a result of her involvement in the
entertainment industry and her positive contributions. It’s not easy
wearing all different hats but as a lover of the industry and a dreamer of the
big stage, Faye’s credits are many.
Professionally, Faye has had the pleasure of working with the likes of Marlon
Wayans, Charo, Ben Vereen, as well as Rob Marshall and Catherine Zeta-Jones in
the Oscar & Golden Globe winning movie, “CHICAGO”. Faye can be
seen as one of the video dancers in U2’s “Vertigo” tour 2005. She
has worked on such celebrated dance movies as CBC’s “Roxana” with Greta
Hodgkinson from the National Ballet of Canada and Rex Harrington. Most
recently, Faye finished filming the movie, “HAIRSPRAY” in Toronto with John
Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and Queen Latifa. Faye’s acting credits have
been seen on the television series “MONK”, Walt Disney’s “The Sixth
Man”, the Canadian film “Ham & Cheese” and various other television
commercials.
Faye has traveled extensively around the world dancing and performing for
various dance companies across Canada and the US and as far away as Finland.
Faye had the pleasure to travel to some of the most exotic and remote places
while performing for Royal Caribbean Cruiselines.
Her choreography credits span from stage to stage, be it sports or musical
theater. Some of the leagues that Faye’s choreography has been seen are
AHL, NBA and the CFL. She was also apart of the production team for the
Steve Nash Charity Basketball Invitational 2005 held in Toronto. She
produced the talent and entertainment for the annual KRG Children’s Charity
events as well as the annual Mr. & Miss CHIN Pageant. On the musical
theater stage, Faye choreographed KING DAVID The Musical at the Winter Gardens
Theater in Toronto, BILLY BISHOP GOES TO WAR for Souris Valley Theater Festival
and the national stage tour of CANADIAN THUNDER. Faye’s choreographic
works have also been seen at the Canadian launch for the Brittney Spears
fragrance, CURIOUS, Dance Force at Western University and recording artist,
Kristine W.
With Faye’s extensive involvement with the public she has branched her
talents and personality into a hosting position on such contracts as the AHL
Toronto Roadrunners in-game host, CFL Toronto Argonauts in-game host as well as
co-host for the Steve Nash Charity Basketball Invitational and the Mr. &
Miss CHIN Pageant.
As a dance teacher, Faye started teaching at the age of 15 in Saskatchewan
and has expanded her teaching capabilities all through her professional career
which has lead her to teach at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts
College and OIP Dance Center in Toronto. Faye’s workshop faculty credits
include Triple Threat Dance Convention, The Dance Project, Dance Dance Canada,
Fame Fitness Exposition and is pleased to have the opportunity to travel to
various studios across Canada and host her own workshops with Fayez1
Productions. This past summer, Faye hosted her own inaugural summer camp
at U of S Kenderdine Campus, Fayez1 Summer Dance Camp. Faye is certified
as a full member with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association.
Faye has been adjudicating dance festivals and competitions for several years
within North America and Australia where she continues to learn about
confidence, relationships, courage & controversy as it relates to society
through dance. “It’s amazing what you learn from watching!”

Question: Where did you take your dance training?
Answer: Humboldt School of Dance + Jacquie's Dance Academy,
Humboldt, SK...all under the direction of Jackquie Huck
Question: Who inspired you as a young dancer?
Answer: Michael Jackson, Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson and
any dancer I ever saw on the American Music awards
Question: And why?
Answer: Because they were spot-light performers,
captured in the most famous lights...they had to be the best at their craft to
get that kind of recognition I thought.
Question: Who inspires you now?
Answer: Now, my peers inspire me, music and quiet time
inspire me.
Question: And why?
Answer: Because my mind is an instrument and is always
creating....seeing my peers create such fabulous work inspires me to create
intricate and unique pieces.
Question: Where has your dance career taken you?
Answer: I've had the pleasure of working on cruise
ships and traveling the world. I've performed in dance companies in
Finland and Canada. I've judged national championships in Australia and
am fortunate to have performed in such feature films as CHICAGO and HAIRSPRAY
and Gemini award winning Canadian dance feature, Roxanna.
Question: What are you presently doing now in dance?
Answer: Currently, I'm teaching in Toronto, performing
for various companies and running my own production company that allows me to
host my own annual summer dance camp back in Saskatchewan.
Question: What is your favorite style of dance?
Answer:
Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop or Tap.
Question: What is your favourite style of dance to do?
Answer: Contemporary and Lyrical...because I can
express.
Question: What is your favourite style of dance to
watch?
Answer: Tap...because it excites me and leaves me in
wonderment.
Question: What is your favourite style of dance to
choreograph?
Answer: Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary because anything
goes!!!
Question: What is the most exciting dance moment?
Answer: Right before they announce your name and you
are about to perform...and then the applause at the end of your performance...
Question: What is on your Ipod now?
Answer: On my IPOD is a mix of songs from country to
hip hop to electronic to pop and rock...I love it all...once a prairie girl,
always a prairie girl!! I'd have to say my favorite is what my boyfriend
has added for me cause it makes me appreciate someone else's interests
musically and it inspires creation for me.
Question: What is your favorite food?
Answer: Anything...chocolate, pasta, steak cooked by my
father, my grandma's apple pie and my mom's apple Danish.
Question: What is your favorite T.V. show?
Answer: I don't' get to watch too much TV but I've been
starting to get into The Office lately...I kinda like Grey's Anatomy too.
Question: What is your favourite movie?
Answer: Always a fan of Pretty Woman but I also enjoy
The Princess Bride and Grease 2.
Question: What is your favorite holiday destination?
Answer: My parents farm in Saskatchewan but I'd be
okay with any hot destination or NYC anytime of the year.
Question: And why?
Answer: Home because it brings me peace and quiet
and comfort!!! NYC because it inspires me!!! Hot destination because it
forces me to chill out and relax!!!
Question: What is something about you that might
surprise people?
Answer: I hang onto everything...even a piece of paper
or home-made card that a former student made for me...I keep it...it clutters
my place but I have a hard time letting go of things that make me
smile...Also, I used to water ski competitively and play rugby on the
provincial (SK), regional (SK) and varsity team (BC).
